Habitat Resort was first conceived over 13 years ago, when Broome was just beginning to get a foothold as a nationally significant tourism destination. The site for a garden resort was chosen based on the location adjacent to the golf club and surrounding crown land. Habitat was born as a low density, spacious, garden resort that was not imaginable in the high density, crowded area of Cable Beach.
The initial garden at Habitat preserved many of the original native plants, as well as importing a wonderous selection of exotic tropical plants. The Broome style bungalows buildings were designed in a layout that complements the garden and provides a wonderful sense of privacy and intimacy with the natural environment. Michael and Jane Leake have been managing the resort for the last 7 years and under their guidance, the gardens have grown and evolved providing much enjoyment to our guests. The resort’s unique design has seen Habitat Resort acknowledged with state tourism awards in each of the last 4 years.
The indulgent gardens at Habitat Resort are the only resort gardens in the Kimberley based on the philosophy of a touch, taste, smell and feel garden. The success of the gardens can be seen by the wonderful wildlife that chooses to share the gardens with the guests from the abundant green tree frogs to the friendly, waving Tata lizards. It is a garden to be experienced with all your senses, not just looked at. Let yourself go and relax, refresh and enjoy in our oasis gardens of the Kimberley.
